Normally I wouldn't force lovey-dovey fairy tale stype stuff on my worst of enemies, but I'll make an exception for the way I popped the question. I'm rather proud of how it all turned out. Here is how it all went down. These are her words, taken from our wedding site.
"One of the first weekends Nate and I were going to be in the city together in quite a while. The plan was to relax and do fun city things.
So off we went to brooklyn, to the renegade craft fair. i should have known something was up when nate so readily agreed to come with me to a craft fair!! it so happened to be the first ridiculously hot summer day in NYC and we spent a few hours in the blazing sun looking at knit hats, printed ts and dresses. i fell in love with one and just had to have it!
the only scheduled event of the day was heading to a gallery show nate's friend had some art featured in, but that wasn't till later on in the day.
when we finally returned to our apartment i was ready for a cold shower and a long nap. nate on the other hand was ready to have a quick refresh and get out the door. one of my favorite memories is hearing afterwards that when i went to lay down, nate went into the other room and stamped around a bit out of fear i wasn't going to get up!
I finally agreed to motivate and decided to wear my new fabulous dress to the gallery. we got in a cab and headed down to the south street seaport, which already seemed a bit suspect to me.
We made our way up to the gallery of this couple who were seated at the far end of the room. slowly, we looked at all the art on the walls. as we made our way down the long corridor nate was amazingly cool as a cucumber! we finally made it to the furthest corner, and there hanging on the wall was 3 black and white photographs of a ring, in a box, shot on the street. The caption read "Marry me. By Nathan Archambault" As the images slowly sunk in, nate dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. I was overwhelmed with happiness and almost forgot to say yes!
As the champagne started flowing I knew I had to call my parents to share the great news. Surprise #2, nate told some of our local NYC friends and our parents to come for a "celebration". 10 minutes after the proposal everyone showed up at the gallery and we spent the rest of the evening celebrating.
He is one romantic man and I am so lucky to be marrying him." - Deb Spokony
Without further ado, here is the what Deb saw hanging on the wall:
Check and mate.
It's great to hear from you and see what you've been up to. In your blog I feel your enthusiasm for life. thank you.
