What's up with no Grand Prix winners in Branded Content?
Jury president Doug Scott, president of OgilvyEntertainment, explained to Adweek why there weren't any Grand Prix awards handed out in the Branded Content category: He wants to encourage bolder ideas in future years. "Despite the fact that we saw great submissions from clients and agencies around the world, and awarded 11 golds, none of the work exemplified all of the key elements of extraordinary branded content—originality, craft, integration, brand alignment and most importantly narrative," Scott said. "It is my belief that we as the provocateurs of culture need to push harder with our creative tools and create stories that not only reflect the present but set the future."
Can't argue with that. While this year saw some fantastic efforts in the Branded Content category, this is still a new subset of the advertising industry that's only going to blossom as time goes on. Just think about early digital to digital today. It's a completely different world.
